KABUL, Afghanistan – The International Security Assistance Force congratulates the millions of Afghan men and women who voted for their new president today. This successful election clearly demonstrates that Afghan people are confident in the security provided by their own forces, and are optimistic about a future of progress and opportunity for Afghanistan.
ISAF commends the Afghan National Security Forces, who essentially conducted non-stop security operations following the April 5 elections. The ANSF led all aspects of security, securing approximately 6,200 polling centers across the country. This is a historic accomplishment.
"Once again, the Afghan Security Forces have provided the Afghan people with the opportunity to vote. And once again, the Afghan people have shown great courage and determination in casting their ballots," said General Joseph F. Dunford Jr., ISAF commander. "The professionalism and commitment of the Afghan forces was reflected in their applying lessons learned from the first round of elections. Their tireless and effective efforts to bring peace and security to the Afghan people and to support political transition give me great optimism for the future."
ISAF stands committed to continuing the strong partnership forged with Afghanistan for more than a decade. The ANSF achievements of the past year are enormous; their brave and heroic actions demonstrate their dedication to a secure, stable and unified Afghanistan.
