MACDILL AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. – Shortly following his promotion, Lt. Gen. Kenneth McKenzie assumed responsibility of U.S. Marine Corps Forces Central Command from Lt. Gen. Robert Neller during a change of command ceremony here June 18.

McKenzie comes to U.S. Central Command following his time spent as the Marine Corps liaison to the Quadrennial Defense Review, where he advised senior military officials including Marine Corps Commandant Gen. James Amos on how the Marine Corps should be shaped for the future.

Prior to his assignment to the QDR, McKenzie served as the director of the USCENTCOM Strategy, Plans and Policy Directorate from July 2010 to August 2012.

McKenzie mentioned he looks forward to taking the challenges that come with being the MARCENT commander and is optimistic about the future of the command.

Lt. Gen. Neller will assume command of Marine Corps Forces Command in Norfolk, Va., later this summer. He will also serve as commander of U.S. Marine Corps Forces Europe, U.S. Marine Corps Forces Atlantic and Fleet Marine Forces Atlantic.

Neller thanked the Marines of MARCENT and the entire Tampa Bay community for their support to the command during his time there.

Those in attendance included Army Gen. Lloyd J. Austin III, commander of U.S. Central Command and many officers from U.S. Special Operations Command, USCENTCOM, MARCENT and the Coalition at USCENTCOM.
