NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Lt. Col. Erica L. Ingram assumed command of the 871st Troop Command Battalion from Lt. Col. Dwight D. Ikenberry to during a change of command ceremony held at Fisher Armory here Saturday, July 12, 2014. The battalion is composed of seven companies and a headquarters detachment and nearly 700 service members.

Ingram had previously served as the 87th Troop Command Brigade administrative officer. She received her commission as second lieutenant in 1995, and after serving four years on active duty she joined the Arkansas Army National Guard. She has also served within the 212th Signal Battalion during her service.

“I can not say thank you enough for the confidence in my ability that is being shown by allowing me to take command of this battalion and entrusting to me what is the greatest resource in our military, the soldiers,” expressed Ingram.

Ingram has made a mark in history. She is the first African American female to hold a battalion command position in the Arkansas Army National Guard.

Ikenberry assumed command of the battalion in June of 2012. Ikenberry began his military career in 1987 and has held positions including combat engineer platoon leader, executive officer of Alpha Company 875th Engineer Battalion, and before assuming command of the 871st battalion he served as the battalion intelligence and operations officer.

“These last two years of command have flown by,” reflected Ikenberry. “It has been a great time and a true highlight of my military career. I am very proud of the challenges that these troops have met in what I argue an operation tempo unmatched by any other battalion in the state.”

“Colonel Ikenberry did an excellent job as commander, and I cannot thank him enough for leading these troops like he has,” commented Col. Alex Finger, commander of the 87th Troop Command Brigade. “I know that Colonel Ingram can take them to even greater heights.”
