BELTON, Mo. – More than 100 Soldiers from the 89th Sustainment Brigade have gathered to participate in a Command Post Exercise – Functional July 24-31, 2014. The 89th SB is the first Army Reserve unit to ever conduct the CPX-F, the results of which will determine its future use for all sustainment units in the Army Reserve.
“This is a proof-of-principle exercise,” said Capt. Randy McCoy, supply and services branch chief with the 89th SB. “It’s critical because it will shape the way the Army Reserve trains in the future.”
More than 400 individuals from three different locations – Wichita, Kansas, Belton, Missouri, and Fort Dix, New Jersey, – are involved in the distributed simulation exercise, designed to enhance the cost savings of the Army Reserve while testing the operational abilities of sustainment units.
“As a sustainment unit, [the 89th SB] supports the warfighters or tank drivers,” said McCoy. “Our role is to push sustainment to those Soldiers, and we will be tested on that here.”
The 89th SB is also receiving support from higher Army commands, including the 75th Training Command and the Army Combined Arms Support Command.
“The 75th is here to oversee the execution of the exercise,” said Lt. Col. Bernie Stabinski, exercise project officer with the 75th Training Command. “We’re also helping coach and mentor 89th SB Soldiers.”
The 89th SB Soldiers will be training from dawn to dusk to meet their expected standards while participating in the CPX-F.
Local civilian news media outlets are invited to attend. For further inquiries, please contact the 89th SB Public Affairs Office: 316-207-1301.
