CAMP LEATHERNECK, Afghanistan – Soldiers from the Kingdom of Jordan gathered for a ceremony marking their end of mission with Regional Command (Southwest) aboard Camp Leatherneck, Helmand province, Afghanistan, as they bid farewell to their coalition counterparts, July 23, 2014.
While deployed in support of the International Security Assistance Force, Jordanian soldiers worked under Task Force Belleau Wood to aid in security force protection within Helmand province.
“This is a great day for the Jordanians,” said Brig. Gen. Daniel D. Yoo, commander, RC(SW). “The impact you have had here has been significant. Although this is the end of your mission with RC(SW) and we say goodbye, just like when we began in 2001, it was very important to have a Muslim country participate in this international coalition. The importance of having you a part of the RC(SW) team and ISAF was very important to accomplishing our mission. Again, I can’t thank you enough for what you have done here. We could not have done the mission here in RC(SW), especially Camps Bastion and Leatherneck, without the contribution of the Jordanians.”
Since ISAF entered Afghanistan, the Kingdom of Jordan has been a committed and loyal coalition partner, deploying their troops during 2012.
“Thank you for being here today to attend the lowering of the Kingdom of Jordan’s flag, which indicates the end of our mission here in Helmand province,” said Lt. Col. Mohammed A. Aljarrah, commanding officer of the Jordanian Army with RC(SW). “In a few days we will go back to our home country, so I’d like say that the last four months working with you has offered us all an unforgettable experience working alongside our new friends from different countries. We have learned a lot from your experience, help, knowledge and professionalism. When the time to say goodbye arrives, one feels the sensation to stay for more time, but as you know it is impossible. Thank you for all the experience we’ve gotten from you.”
During their deployment with RC(SW), the Jordanian Army supported security force protection efforts not only at the Bastion-Leatherneck Complex, but also at Forward Operating Base Dwyer and Patrol Base Boldak.
“I hope that all the work we did for Bastion and Leatherneck and with Task Force Belleau Wood met your full expectations,” said Aljarrah. “I hope this country will soon improve all the things that are wrong at the moment. That is made possible with your effort and support.”
The ceremony concluded with the lowering of the Jordanian flag symbolizing Jordan’s mission with RC(SW) had come to an end.
