    U.S. Marine Corps Forces, Europe and Africa     

    MORON AIR BASE, Spain – Early morning Aug. 4, 2014, aboard Morón Air Base, Spain, the Marines and Sailors of Special-Purpose Marine Air-Ground Task Force – Crisis Response (SP-MAGTF Crisis Response) held a Transfer of Authority ceremony, where 8th Marine Regiment formally passed command of SP-MAGTF Crisis Response to 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit.

    The ceremony was attended by senior U.S. Marine Corps Forces Europe/Africa leadership, the Spanish Morón Air Base Commander, and the U.S. Air Force 496th Air Base Squadron Commander.

    “It is an honor to take the baton of leadership from SP-MAGTF Crisis Response under Colonel Ken DeTreux and the 8th Marine Regiment. They are a first class team of professionals, who distinguished themselves throughout their deployment. We are committed to carrying on the tradition of excellence our predecessors established,” said Col. Robert C. Fulford, commanding officer SP-MAGTF Crisis Response.

    The 26th MEU will serve as the Command Element for SP-MAGTF Crisis Response with elements of 2nd Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment serving as the Ground Combat Element, Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron (VMM) 264 Reinforced serving as the Aviation Combat Element, and elements of Combat Logistics Battalion 2 serving as the Logistics Combat Element.

    “As we assume the watch, we remain steadfast to fulfilling our role as the right force, at the right time, and the right place for our Nation and the Combatant Commander. Additionally, we’re eager to work with partners and allies in joint, bilateral, and multilateral training helping us build and sustain relationships throughout Africa and Europe,” said Fulford.

    SP-MAGTF Crisis Response is organized and trained to respond quickly to a broad range of military operations, including embassy reinforcement, military assisted departure operations, humanitarian assistance, disaster relief operations, recovery capabilities of aircraft and personnel, and other missions as directed.
