FORT HOOD, Texas - Lt. Gen. Sean B. MacFarland, commanding general of III Corps and Fort Hood, took command of III Corps at 9:15 a.m. Aug. 8 here during a change of command ceremony that was presided over by Gen. Daniel B. Allyn, commanding general of the U.S. Army Forces Command.

Allyn will soon become the vice chief of staff of the Army after he relinquishes command Aug. 15 of FORSCOM to Lt. Gen. (P) Mark A. Milley.

Milley, former III Corps and Fort Hood commander, will be promoted to the rank of general just prior to the Aug. 15 FORSCOM change of command ceremony.

Milley was confirmed for promotion to general and assignment as the commanding general of United States Army Forces Command, Fort Bragg, N.C., on July 24.

MacFarland was also confirmed for promotion to lieutenant general and assignment as the III Corps and Fort Hood commanding general on July 24.

Milley, who has commanded III Corps and Fort Hood since December 2012, stated, "I am humbled and honored by the nomination, confirmation, and selection for promotion to general and the opportunity to command United States Army Forces Command. I look forward to continuing to make a contribution to the defense of this great nation.

"While my wife Hollyanne and I are excited for the opportunity to continue to serve, it comes with a touch of sadness as we will leave behind so many friends and partners at the Great Place," he said. "Fort Hood, the surrounding communities, and all of Central Texas have truly opened their hearts to us and made us feel like family."
