TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Soldier highlight recognition is for Pfc. Kyesha Patton for his effort during Vibrant Response 14. Vibrant Response 14 is a Defense Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear Response Force training event based at Camp Atterbury, Indiana.

Patton was known to keep her smile going at any hour of her 12-hour shift at Task Force Operations during Vibrant Response 14, a joint force exercise for Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear units at Camp Atterbury, Indiana.

Patton, a human resource specialist from the 31st CBRN Brigade, was responsible for tracking personnel belonging to TF Ops during VR 14. Her duties included tracking approximately 1,400 Soldiers by unit, name and status. This included the actual units present and created notional units with simulated names and identification numbers. She coordinated with higher echelon groups, like Army North and Task Force 46, delivering personnel status reports twice a day, as well as commander update briefs daily.

Patton’s efforts were recognized on several occasions by the TF Ops leadership. She received two coins for excellence during the exercise, one by Maj. Gen. Perry Smith, the adjutant general for the Alabama Army National Guard, and one from Col. Lee Ellis, the commander of the 31st.

“She was very proactive,” said Master Sgt. David Sanford, senior human resource sergeant with the 31st CBRN Brigade. “She would ask questions about the why and how a process works, and then she would run with it.”

Patton gained valuable leadership and personnel task skills throughout the exercise. She found the whole experience of VR 14 interesting, to be more engaged leads to a greater knowledge of how a personnel section functions from headquarters detachment to brigade level.
