TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Soldier highlight recognition is for Staff Sgt. James Ray for his effort during Vibrant Response 14. Vibrant Response 14 is a Defense Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear Response Force training event based at Camp Atterbury, Indiana.

The 31st Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear Brigade’s convoy of buses and command vehicles pulled out and are well on their way to a joint-force exercise at Camp Atterbury, Indiana. Ray, supply noncommissioned officer in charge for the 31st CBRN, conducted one final inspection of his office and supply room before climbing into the last truck carrying personal gear, cots, and supplies.

Earlier in the week, Ray was responsible to ensure the movement of eight line-haul commercial bill-of-lading trucks with mission essential equipment. He also set up the advance party convoy of cargo requirements and vehicles including 12 military cargo carriers with nine trailers.

The exercise, Vibrant Response 14 will be Ray’s third joint force exercise at Camp Atterbury, Indiana. He is pleased with his section’s efforts to move equipment and supplies quicker and more seamlessly than in years past.

Ray’s primary duties for VR 14 include the sustainment of brigade supplies, taking care of Soldiers’ needs ranging from food to equipment, and making sure that all mission-essential items are accessible.

“If it’s done right, nobody will know you are there,” said Ray.

If a Soldier needs something, Ray’s supply section is ready to help meet their need.

“He is going to go where he needs, who he needs to talk to, and get what he needs,” said Capt. Jeremiah Griffin, logistics officer with 31st CBRN. “He is good at coordinating and utilizing resources.”
