    85th Support Command

FORT MCCOY, Wis. — The 85th Support Command, headquartered in Arlington Heights, Illinois, - 25 miles northwest of Chicago – conducted an assumption of command ceremony on August 14, during the unit’s individual weapons qualification at Fort McCoy, Wisconsin, where Col. Robert W. Rauchle relinquished command to newly promoted Brig. Gen. Frederick R. Maiocco Jr.

“The Army Reserve enjoys a tremendous integrated working relationship with First Army,” said Maj. Gen. Glenn J. Lesniak, Deputy Commanding General for Support, Army Reserve and host for the ceremony, in remarks after Maiocco took command. “A key to this relationship is the multi-component organizational structure that is strengthened by the dual hat responsibilities of the 85th Support Command commander as also the Deputy Commanding General for Support, First Army Division West.”

Maiocco took command of the 85th Support Command as well as taking on the role of the deputy commanding general for support of First Army Division West based in Fort Hood, Texas. The ceremony was held at Fort McCoy, Wisconsin, while the unit was there during their battle assembly training for individual weapons qualification.

Maiocco’s mother, Lynn Maiocco, expressed her emotion after witnessing her son’s assumption of command ceremony.

“I’m a proud momma,” said Maiocco’s mother, Lynn, after the ceremony had concluded. “He’s always been really motivated. He loves the army, he always has. His heart is with the military, (it’s) always been, since he was sixteen or seventeen.”

Maiocco is a 1986 graduate of the U.S. Military Academy, and served nine years on active duty before joining the Army Reserve. He branch transferred as an Armor officer to the Transportation Corps. He deployed in 2004 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, and deployed in 2011 to Kuwait where he contributed directly to the planning and execution efforts required to drawdown U.S. forces from Iraq.

He is a graduate of the Command and General Staff College, the Army War College, and Advanced Joint Professional Military Education. He also holds several advanced degrees including a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph. D.), in Education; a Masters of Business Administration (MBA); and a Masters of Strategic Studies (MSS).
