ANSBACH, Germany – Lori Hickey, a teacher at Ansbach Middle/High School, received recognition during a staff meeting at the school Aug. 22, 2014.
Hickey deployed to Afghanistan from June 2013 to June 2014 to develop a language school for the Afghanistan air force.
Among the recognition, Hickey received letters of appreciation from the Ministry of Defense Afghanistan as well as a certificate for the forthcoming Outstanding Civil Service Medal from the U.S. Army, the Secretary of Defense Medal for the Global War on Terrorism, and the Non-Article 5 NATO Service Medal.
This is the second tour Hickey made to Afghanistan to build up language learning. Her first tour was from August 2011 to August 2012, which she spent teaching coalition forces English at Kabul International Airport.
During this trip she spent eight months in Kandahar before joining the NATO Training Mission – Afghanistan’s Language and Literacy Branch in Kabul. Her mobile training team visited the Kandahar English Language Training Center and the Shindand English Language Training Center and taught Afghan air force flight crews English.
Hickey resumed teaching at Ansbach Middle/High School this week.
