FORT RILEY, Kan. - The 1st Infantry Division trained signaleers to perform full spectrum signal duties across their branch then awarded them for completing the green level as part of the Danger Voice Certification Program at Fort Riley.
Directors of the DVCP University, Lt. Col. Patricia Sayles and Sgt. Maj. James Jetton, organized the program, which provides training on essential skill sets unique to specific types of units in the 1st Infantry Division that are essential to those units’ missions.
Graduates start off accomplishing the green level and are able to return for the bronze, silver and gold qualifications. The training is ongoing, brigade combat teams can request a class at any given time but sergeants first class and above can take online classes.
The 1st Infantry Division’s first green level graduates were recognized during an Aug. 8 ceremony at Fort Riley, and received Army Accommodation Medals for completing the DVCP.
The graduates were:
Capt. Marni Prenell, Division Headquarters and Headquarters Battalion, 1st Infantry Division.
Capt. Britney Kennedy, DHHB, 1st Infantry Division.
Chief Warrant Officer 3 Leonard Espinosa, DHHB, 1st Infantry Division.
Sgt. 1st. Class Robert Salyer, DHHB, 1st Infantry Division.
Sgt. Robert Powell, 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division.
Spc. Kevin Rozier, 2nd ABCT, 1st Infantry Division.
As Army officials implement draw-downs and budget cuts, the DVCP qualification can make Soldiers more competitive amongst their peers, according to the information provided by the 1st Infantry Division signal office.
The green level provides basic skills for signal Soldiers essential for all signaleers to know and master. As Soldiers progress through the different levels of the DVCP, they are met with more challenging levels to make them better technicians at tasks like Windows 7 configuration and A+ certifications, according to the information provided by the 1st Infantry Division signal office.
Once Soldiers enhance their career development by completing the gold level of excellence, they are qualified for Army additional skill identifiers and certifications such as the CISCO Interconnecting Cisco Networking Devices Part 2 and Command Post of the Future-Leaders Course. These are not usually available to most signaleers, according to the information provided by the 1st Infantry Division signal office.
Once Soldiers complete different levels of the DVCP, they are also authorized to wear dog tags that correspond to the various skill track levels.
