FORT HOOD, Texas – Soldiers with the 89th Military Police Brigade proudly welcomed Command Sgt. Maj. Bradley E. Cross as their new brigade command sergeant major in an assumption of responsibility ceremony at Gauntlet Field near the 89th MP Brigade Headquarters Aug. 22.
“Over the last 24 years, CSM Cross is one who has never been satisfied with the status quo and it is a leadership trait that all admire,” said the 89th MP Brigade commander, Col. Ross Guieb. “That was one of the reasons I was so comfortable with CSM Cross assuming [noncommissioned officer] leadership of the 89th MP Brigade.”
Guieb recalled the first time he had the opportunity to serve with Cross when they were stationed together in Hawaii in the mid '90s.
“I knew him when he was a young sergeant and I was a captain,” said Guieb. “You guys can probably do the math and count the ranks, and you can see he has obviously moved a lot faster than I have and rightfully so.”
Guieb went on to explain how if you look at Cross’ biography “he has had all of the key leader jobs the Army has asked us to do.”
“There is not much CSM Cross hasn’t done in the MP field,” said Guieb. “I am confident CSM Cross will bring the same passion and dedication to building the 89th MP Brigade’s next generation of leaders.”
“I am truly honored and humbled for this opportunity to be a part of this great organization,” said Cross.
The 89th MP Brigade conducts police, security and detention operations across a full range of missions in order to prevent and reduce irregular, terrorist and criminal threats to III Corps’ readiness and mission effectiveness.
Cross told his Soldiers they could expect “professionalism, loyalty, leadership, respect, selfless service and that he will ruthlessly enforce the standard.”
“Leaders remember these words,” Cross said to his new Soldiers.
“Your Soldiers need to know you are more committed to whatever mission you are conducting than they are,” said Cross. “That means standing up for it and being visible, literally in front of them.”
“You are the leader, you need to act like it,” continued Cross. “If you don’t leap out of bed each morning eager to get to work and get to your soldiers, they probably deserve a better leader.”
