MONTROSE, N.Y. – Suicide prevention took focus during the debut of a new podcast by the VA Hudson Valley Health Care System Aug. 29.
The “Around the Point” podcast focuses on timely issues affecting Veterans and allows subject-matter experts to have in-depth, one-on-one conversations about those issues. The podcast made its debut on iTunes and the Defense Video and Imagery Distribution System Aug. 29.
The first episode is 21 minutes. It features Dr. Joseph Amato, a psychologist working for VA Hudson Valley as its Suicide Prevention Program manager. Amato also leads the program on a national level for the Department of Veterans Affairs.
“We think we can reach new audiences and talk in-depth about topics that are both timely and relevant to their needs,” said Jason Tudor, VA Hudson Valley public affairs officer. “Along with a strong social media presence, our web site, face-to-face interaction and other means, the podcast will provide us another robust medium to communicate and interact with our Veterans.”
A podcast is a program of music or talk made available in digital format for automatic download over the Internet. “Around the Point” is available for download on the VA Hudson Valley’s DVIDS web page or via iTunes. Tudor said other points of distribution will be available soon.
