    130th Engineer Brigade

HONOLULU – More than 450 Soldiers and guests assembled into the Makai Ballroom at the Pacific Beach Hotel in Honolulu to honor military engineers across Hawaii and all that they offer to the Pacific Theater.

The ball was hosted by the 130th Engineer Brigade, the Pacific Theater Engineer Brigade. Guests included engineers from different units and services. The senior engineer on ground was U.S. Navy Rear Adm. Bret Muilenburg, commander of Naval Facilities Engineer Command-Pacific.

Other notable guests included the guest speaker, Command Sgt. Maj. Frank Leota, former U.S. Army Pacific Command sergeant major, Col. Jeffrey Milhorn, U.S. Army Corps of Engineer Pacific Ocean Division commander and former 130th Engineer Brigade commander, Command Sgt. Maj. Federico Boyce from USACE POD, and Col. Cory Spencer, USARPAC engineer.

The Army engineers in attendance were not exclusive to the 130th Engineer Brigade battalions of 84th Engineer Battalion (Construction Effects) and the 65th Engineer Battalion (Combat Effects). There were Soldiers present from the 249th Engineer Battalion (Prime Power), the 29th Engineer Battalion (Topographic), U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, USARPAC, Joint POW/MIA Accounting Command, and even the 25th Infantry Division had some Soldiers in attendance from their Division Engineer Section.

The formal events kicked off with toasts followed by an impressive dinner spread. For dessert, the youngest and oldest Army Engineer Soldiers in attendance joined the brigade command team and Muilenburg in cutting the cake with a saber.

Leota spoke to the group about the importance of the engineers and their strategic location in the Pacific theater. He commended them on the exceptional work they have done in the past.

The event continued with recognizing Soldiers within the formation that were recently selected as Bronze and Steel de Fleury Medal winners for providing significant contributions to Army Engineering. A total of eight individuals received the award from the U.S. Army Engineer Regiment.

Less than 90 days after the brigade headquarters and 65th Engineer Battalion returned from Afghanistan, Albert took the opportunity to identify and award some of the spouses within the 130th Engineer Brigade formation that considerably assisted with the Family Readiness Group (FRG) programs.

As the formal portion of the ball came to a close, Albert told the engineers he looked forward to the many opportunities that are still to come.
