MARINE CORPS BASE CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. - Sgt. Maj. David L. Bradford assumed his post as the new senior enlisted adviser for 2nd Marine Division from Sgt. Maj. Bryan K. Zickefoose during a post-and-relief ceremony aboard Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, Sept. 4.
Zickefoose served as the division sergeant major for more than two years and is scheduled to replace Sgt. Maj. Robert VanOostrom as the sergeant major of II Marine Expeditionary Force.
Zickefoose said he would not have been able to do his job without his team of senior staff noncommissioned officers and dedicated NCOs.
“Today is bittersweet for me,” said Zickefoose. “I have been in the division for almost 29 years. It’s been my life. I have spent every rank from lance corporal to sergeant major with the division.”
Bradford comes to the division after serving as the group sergeant major for Marine Aircraft Group 14 at Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, North Carolina, where he served for the past two years.
“It is an honor to be selected to be the 2nd Marine Division sergeant major,” said Bradford. “I look forward to working with each and every one of the Marines and sailors to make us a better team, I look forward to the challenge, and I look forward to going out and seeing what you do every day.”
Bradford will now be in charge of the more than 16,000 Marines and sailors that make up the division – a multi-role, expeditionary ground combat force employed as the ground combat element for II MEF.
