SHAW AIR FORCE BASE, S.C. – This week’s U.S. Army Central Soldier Spotlight is Sgt. Orental U. Woodruff, a human resources noncommissioned officer. Woodruff joined
the U.S. Army in 2001 after serving in the Marines for four-years. Woodruff, a Spartanburg,
S.C. native said seeking a challenge led him to a military career.
Q. What are your hobbies?
A. I like watching sports, mainly basketball and football.
Q. What do you enjoy doing most during your free time?
A. I enjoy being a dad; just chilling with my daughters makes me happy.
Q. What are your short/long-term professional goals?
A. My short-term goal is to aim for my next challenge once I retire, which retiring is my long-term goal.
Q. If you could take a vacation to a location of your choice, where would you go?
A.I would go to China.
Q. When did you make the decision to become a Soldier and why?
A. I made my decision a couple years after graduating high school. I joined mainly for the challenge.
Q. What do you enjoy most about being a Soldier?
A. I enjoy meeting new people; being around so many different types of people exposes you to many cultures and personalities.
Q. If you could change one thing about the Army, what would you change and why?
A. I would activate more team building programs. As a former Marine I remember how camaraderie was our priority, so I will focus on building on Soldiers being more motivated because I believe a better working environment equals success.
Q. If you could hold a different position in ARCENT for one day, what position would you choose?
A. I would choose to be the command sergeant major of USARCENT because in order for me to understand the duty and responsibility of a command sergeant major I need to walk two-miles in his shoes.
