JOINT BASE MYER-HENDERSON HALL, Va. - Falling leaves and cooling temperatures mean parents in the National Capital Region are looking for indoor opportunities for family fun.
Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall Marine Corps Family Services hosted the 4th annual Fall Family Fun Day Sept. 27 in the Cpl. Terry L. Smith Gym to give military families those opportunities.
“We hold the Fall Family Fun Festival to give the military families something to do in the area that is interactive, fun, safe and free,” said Amaris Brown Marine Corps Community Services New Parent Support visitor. “It is a way for them to get out of the house and be able to bond and engage more.”
“They don’t have to worry about going into the community and spending a lot of money because, let’s face it, it is pretty expensive to live in this area,” she said.
While having a unicorn painted on her face, Amayah-Ray Dogan, 5, says she “just wants to run around” with her mom, Andranita Dogan, a case worker for the JBM-HH Exceptional Family Member Program.
“We are here to support MCCS and have some fun, learn a lot of stuff and hang out with friends we have seen at other events,” said Dogan.
Sgt. Hazel Ramos, attending the event with her family, said she came to do two things - have fun and also volunteer if help was needed to break down or set up.
“She loves these things,” said Ramos about her daughter. “We had a great time at the spring fair, but this time is much more decorative and there are a lot of kid-friendly things to do.”
The event featured bounce castles, face painters, fall décor, food and musical entertainment by Kinder Jam. For updates on future Henderson Hall family fun events, visit www.mccshh.com.
