KILLEEN, Texas – When the Harker Heights High School Knights met the Shoemaker High School Grey Wolves on the gridiron Oct. 16, they showed their support to the military during Military Appreciation Night.
The guests of honor were the 8th Brigade Engineer Battalion “Trojan Horse,” 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division command team, Lt. Col. Don Nestor and Command Sgt. Maj. Roderick Jones, who conducted the coin toss to start the game.
“The command sergeant major and I had the honor and privilege to be out here supporting Harker Heights on Military Appreciation Night,” said Nestor, a native of Jacksonville, Florida. “We have a good relationship with the school, the community, and we will continue to foster it.”
Harker Heights High School is the adopted school of the 8th BEB. The Harker Heights Knights wore special camouflage jerseys with “Fort Hood, TX” written on the backs in support of that relationship.
“We want to be involved with the community as much as we can,” said Nestor. “They are a part of our lives, and we want to be a part of theirs.”
Nestor said they look forward to maintaining the relationship with the high school and community for years to come.
