ESTONIA - Troopers from 2nd Battalion, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division were paid a visit today by their Division Commander at the Tapa Combat Training Support Centre.

Major Gen. Michael A. Bills, commander, 1st Cavalry Division, also known as Pegasus 6, is conducting a battlefield circulation over the next few days to receive update briefs from each of the contingents in the division's area of responsibility and check on the morale of the troops.

While speaking to the formation of US Soldiers, he stressed the importance of their mission to train alongside their Estonian counterparts.

“What we’re looking for is how much we get out of it and more importantly, how much they [Estonians] get out of it,” said Bills. “They're here to learn from us, but what a great opportunity to learn from them at the same time.”

The U.S. Army Europe-led Atlantic Resolve, a multinational combined arms exercise involving the 1st BCT, 1st Cavalry Division, and host nations, takes place across Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland to enhance multinational interoperability, strengthen relationships among allied militaries, contribute to regional stability and to demonstrate US commitment to NATO.

A task force of nearly 800 Soldiers from the 1st Cavalry Division, based at Fort Hood, Texas, took over responsibility in late September from the 173rd Infantry Brigade Combat Team (Airborne), from Vicenza, Italy, who kicked-off the Operation Atlantic Resolve this Spring.

“The big benefit for the Estonians is they've never had American units like ours here, so they get to see a different fighting force, and a different set of tactics,” said Staff Sgt. Aaron Jackson, squad leader, Comanche Troop, 1st Squadron (Stryker), 2nd Cavalry Regiment. “Though a lot of us fight the same we have some different TTP's [tactics, techniques and procedures] we would operate under, and different SOPs [standard operating procedures] that we establish for our small unit training.”

Soldiers from Comanche Troop, 1st Squadron (Stryker), 2nd Cavalry Regiment, based in Vilseck, Germany are also training alongside Estonian Soldiers and members of the 1st BCT, 1st Cavalry Division.
