    FORWARD OPERATING BASE KALSU, Iraq – A scout weapons team from the 3rd Combat Aviation Brigade coordinated an attack that destroyed a vehicle transporting mortars near Arab Jabour, Dec. 16.

    An enemy mortar attack was launched against 1st Battalion, 30th Infantry Regiment Soldiers, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division. A scout weapons team was called in to investigate the possible point of origin of the mortar attack.

    A Kiowa helicopter from 3rd Squadron, 17th Cavalry Regiment, 3rd CAB, 3rd Inf. Div., noticed a suspicious silver van then saw suspected insurgents jump out and run away.

    The Kiowa helicopter destroyed the vehicle with a Hellfire missile.

    On the same day, members of the Concerned Local Citizens turned over a cache to Soldiers from Company D, 1-30th Inf. Regt.

    The cache contained 10 rocket-propelled grenades, 10 pounds of dynamite, a grenade and 90 blasting caps. The cache was destroyed in a controlled detonation.
