LAGHMAN PROVINCE, Afghanistan – The Polish armed forces operational commander Lt. Gen. Marek Tomaszycki and members of his staff visited Train, Advise Assist Command – East at Tactical Base Gamberi Nov. 13, 2014.

TAAC-E commander U.S. Army Brig. Gen. Christopher Bentley briefed Tomaszycki and his staff on security force assistance in eastern Afghanistan post-2014. Polish forces, part of Task Force White Eagle, will play an integral role as members of the TAAC-E team under NATO’s Resolute Support mission.

Polish soldiers will be part of the TAAC-E advisory teams designed to train, advise and assist Afghan National Security forces at the corps-level and above. Others within the Polish contingent will help provide security for coalition forces in TAAC-E.

Bentley presented Tomaszycki and staff with a cake decorated to resemble a Polish flag welcoming the country’s forces to TAAC-E. The two leaders cut the cake together using a U.S. cavalry saber showing symbolic unity of effort between U.S. and Polish forces in eastern Afghanistan.

Following the briefing and prior to Tomaszycki’s departure, TAAC-E deputy commanding officer U.S. Army Col. Cameron Cantlon escorted Tomaszycki and staff on a driving tour of Tactical Base Gamberi and the 201st Afghan National Army Corps headquarters to provide an overview of facilities, infrastructure and security to the Polish forces.

Operation Enduring Freedom under International Security Assistance Forces is scheduled to end Dec. 31, 2014. After that date U.S. and coalition forces in TAAC-E will continue their partnership with ANSF under Resolute Support to help improve the systems and processes that will make ANSF sustainable in the long term.
