F.E. WARREN AIR FORCE BASE, Wyo. -The Chadwell Dining Facility opened its doors Nov. 21, 2014, on F.E. Warren Air Force Base, Wyo.
“Today, we are closing the Chadwell Dining Facility upgrade project, but we are opening a new chapter at F.E. Warren Air Force Base,” said Col. Tracey Hayes, 90th Missile Wing commander, during the grand opening ceremony.
The renovations and re-opening of the Chadwell Dining Facility is part of the Air Force’s Food Transformation Initiative. The initiative began in 2010 with six Air Force bases, and phase two began in 2013 with another five bases, including F.E. Warren.
The AF FTI is a program that helps keep Airmen fit to fight.
“We can provide healthier options for everyone who comes here,” said Tech. Sgt. Amy Gray, 90th Force Support Squadron Chadwell DFAC facility manager. “Everything is made fresh [every day]. Nothing is made beforehand and placed out.”
The Chadwell DFAC offers a variety of foods at each meal. The main pieces of the lunch and dinner menu include a pizza grill, a deli and panini bar, the U-food station, a Mongolian Grill and a smoothie bar.
“There are a whole slew of options,” said Airman 1st Class Joshua Szajko, 90th Comptroller Squadron finance specialist. “You can cater the food that you eat to your lifestyle. It is like a food court where you get to pick what you like.”
The DFAC should become a more central location due to the many food options available, said Senior Airman Britany Young, 90th FSS services specialist.
“Airmen have the opportunity to come to the DFAC on base instead of going off base to eat,” she said. “We have better options that will be cheaper for Airmen.”
The main focus is on improved meal options, but the initiative is also more inclusive.
“We are able to open up the dining facility to everyone with base access so we can all eat together,” Gray said. “It allows a family environment for the spouses and children who come here.”
The Chadwell DFAC is open from 6 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. on weekdays and 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. on weekends and holidays.
“This is going to be a showcase, not only for the base, but for the Air Force,” said Dave Bowser, contractor and project manager for the Food Transformation Initiative. “It is going to be a great experience for everyone.”
