MAURITANIA - Partnerships have developed between service members from several military branches during recent theater security cooperation training evolutions.
In this case, a team of Marines and Coast Guardsmen formed partnerships while training alongside the La Marine Nationale Mauritanienne (Mauritanian Navy), sharing technical knowledge and skills while conducting an outboard motor maintenance course, Nov. 3-13, 2014.
“Coming together as one unit, [the] team and the sailors of the Mauritanian Navy were able to fix two boat engines—which just shows how important this training engagement is to everyone involved,” said 1st Lt. Mike O’Friel, the team leader of Security Cooperation Team-7.
O’Friel added that “not only does this training engagement improve boat maintenance (which is important to Mauritania’s overall military capacity) but it also showcases our strong partnership with the Mauritanians and our capability to work side by side successfully toward common goals.”
Marines, Sailors and Coast Guardsmen with SPMAGTF-CR-AF conduct theater security cooperation through military-to-military engagements to assist partner nations in addressing security challenges.
