NORFOLK, Va. - Capt. Timothy R. Trampenau today transferred leadership of the guided-missile cruiser USS Anzio (CG 68) to Capt. Brian K. Sorenson during a change of command ceremony held aboard the ship here.
Rear Adm. DeWolfe H. Miller III, commander, Carrier Strike Group Two, presided over the ceremony.
During Trampenau’s tenure as commanding officer, the Anzio crew conducted a successful Light Off Assessment after coming out of an eight-month Continuous Maintenance Availability and completed basic phase through mobility certifications. In addition, Anzio served as opposing forces for Iwo Jima (LHD 7) Amphibious Ready Group, Marine Expeditionary Unit Exercise and Bold Alligator, 2014.
Rear Adm. Miller presented Trampenau with the Legion of Merit for his superior performance as commanding officer. The native of Cupertino, Calif., held the position since Feb. 28, 2013.
Sorenson assumed command after serving as Commodore, Afloat Training Group Atlantic. He previously served as commanding officer of the guided-missile destroyer USS Mitscher (DDG 57) and as the deputy commodore for Destroyer Squadron Twenty Six, in Norfolk.
Trampenau will report to the U.S. Embassy in Rome, Italy to assume duties as Defense Attaché in June, 2015.
