CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. - Families and friends filled Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, North Carolina on Dec. 6 to see the 2nd Marine Division Band perform their holiday concert, one of their marquee performances of the year.

Doors opened at 6:30 p.m., and the theater quickly filled to hear holiday favorites, such as “Mr. Grinch,” “Silent Night,” “Jingle Bell Rock” and “Grandma Got Run Over By a Reindeer.”

The band performed at multiple various units’ Marine Corps Balls in November in early December. However, they still found time to rehearse for the holiday concert to put on the best performance possible.

“It is remarkable that (the band) supported more than 86 different events in November and early December, yet they can turn right around and put a concert like this,” said Maj. Gen. Brian D. Beaudreault, the commanding general of 2nd Marine Division. “The operational tempo of the division is really indicative of what the band can do.”

The band showed no signs of fatigue, putting on an entertaining show for all ages. They even donned various costumes and acted out different skits.

They also featured a father-son team performing in the band. Sergeant Jonathon Pusztai and his father Pal Pusztai both played in the concert together. Jonathan Pusztai played the French horn, and Pal Pusztai played the oboe.

Given the nature of the band’s duties, they don’t have a need for a regular oboe player. However, the oboe is an important instrument to have during a concert, which brought forth this unique opportunity.

“This is a thrill for me to be able to perform with a military band with my son,” Pal Pusztai said. “This is also a way for me to be able to help out the Marines when they need it.”

The concert lasted about 75 minutes and kept an attentive audience listening, smiling and at times, even laughing.

“We don’t perform a lot of concerts here at the division band,” Sgt. Pusztai said. “We do mostly ceremonies, so it’s really enjoyable to sit down and get to play a concert. It really is a different type of music.”
