CHERRY POINT, N.C. - Lt. Col. Charles F. Megown relinquished command of Marine Heavy Helicopter Squadron 366 to Lt. Col. Scott P. Silvia during a change of command ceremony at Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, N.C., Dec. 10.
HMH-366 provides assault support transport of combat troops, supplies and equipment during operations in support of the Marine Air-Ground Task Force.
“My favorite part of being the commanding officer of the Hammerheads was the daily interactions I had with the Marines,” said Megown.
Megown arrived at HMH-366 in February 2013 and leaves the squadron after commanding the last Marine Heavy Helicopter Squadron Marines to leave Helmand Province, Afghanistan. Megown is moving on to join Marine Aircraft Group 29, where he will serve as the personnel support detachment commanding officer.
Silvia takes command of the Hammerheads following a two-year tour as the regimental air officer and future operations officer with Marine Corps Special Operations Comand, three-months serving as the Marine Aircraft Group 29 operations officer and most recently, three-months as the Remain Behind Element officer in charge.
“I am looking forward to working with the great Marines of this outstanding squadron,” said Silvia.
