MCENTIRE JOINT NATIONAL GUARD BASE, S.C. – Six Airmen from the 169th Fighter Wing participated in the ongoing Adopt-a-Highway program along Highway 378 in front of the base Dec. 10.
Spanning nearly two miles along the highway, the Airmen picked up garbage thrown alongside of the road.
Senior Airman Renae McNease, with the wing’s emergency management office, volunteered for her first cleanup as a way to give back to her community and the installation.
“I really enjoy getting out and showing support,” McNease said during the Adopt-a-Highway cleanup.
The Environmental Office began participating with Adopt-a-Highway in 2010, since the wing does four walks per year, snagging bags of trash along the way. Sponsored by the South Carolina Department of Transportation and Keep the Midlands Beautiful, Adopt-a-Highway is another way the South Carolina Air National Guard gives back to the local community.
