JOINT BASE LEWIS-MCCHORD, Wash. - The 7th Infantry Division held the Noncommissioned Officer and Soldier of the Quarter Board Dec. 17 to test the top NCOs and Soldiers from across the division subordinate brigades.
Qualifying Soldiers and NCOs took an Army Physical Fitness Test, which consists of two minutes of pushups, two minutes of situps, and a two-mile run, as well as other events at their respective brigades and were selected to represent.
The Soldiers were dressed in the Army Service Uniform and prepared to go before a board. There, they would face questions about Army regulations and doctrine from senior noncommissioned officers.
The troops earned points based on their answers to the questions, their ability to maintain their military bearing, and the overall appearance of the Soldier in uniform.
After all the competitors went through the board, their points were tallied Staff Sgt. Diego Solares was named the NCO of the Quarter.
Spc. Krista Stephens was awarded the title of Soldier of the Quarter.
“It’s remarkable that both of them came from the same unit, from 502nd (Military Intelligence Battalion) - they’re doing something right over there,” said Command Sgt. Maj. Samuel Murphy, 7th Infantry Division command sergeant major.
The 502nd MI Battalion is part of 201st Battlefield Surveillance Brigade.
Both Stephens and Solares will qualify to compete several months from now for the 7th Infantry Division Soldier and NCO of the Year titles.
