CAMP BUEHRING, Kuwait– In preparation for transitioning into Iraq, Soldiers from 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division, went to Range 15 on Camp Buehring, Kuwait, earlier this month. The training emphasized weapons safety and re-verification of individual weapon settings.
Sgt. 1st Class Charles DeGone, a native of Wilton, Maine, and range non-commissioned officer in charge from Company C, Brigade Special Troops Battalion, briefed firers about attention to safety and weapon functionality while conducting range verifications.
"I feel the Soldiers in this brigade are prepared more than any other time because of the training done with myself and 1st Sgt. (Larry) Driscoll through close quarters marksmanship techniques and reaction to IEDs (improvised explosive devices)," said DeGone. "There's training we've done with this brigade that I never had the first time over here."
Soldiers are prepared to transition to Iraq with the confidence that their weapons are good. "Safety at all times was met and...everybody maintained the standard and verified zero ... in case they need to fire their weapons while in Iraq," said DeGone.
