PHOENIX – Hundreds of state officials, foreign dignitaries, leaders of industry, service members and Arizona citizens witnessed the state’s 23rd governor and commander in chief take the oath of office here Jan. 5.
Gov. Doug Ducey assumed his new duties in front of the State Capitol Building in downtown Phoenix. After taking the oath administered by Arizona Supreme Court Justice Scott Bales, he was quick to recognize the service of Arizona’s Citizen-Soldiers and -Airmen.
“It is my high honor to share today’s event with Arizona’s National Guard,” said Ducey. “It is because of their sacrifice, and others who served in uniform, that we are able to exercise the freedoms we celebrate today.”
Senior leaders from the Arizona Department of Emergency and Military Affairs welcomed the new governor.
“I am looking forward to his service and continued leadership as our commander in chief of the Arizona National Guard,” said Maj. Gen. Michael McGuire, the Adjutant General for Arizona. “I am so proud of the Soldiers and Airmen of the Arizona Guard, and proud that Governor Ducey mentioned them today.”
