HOLLOMAN AIR FORCE BASE, N.M. - The John L. Hennessy Award represents the hard work that the Airmen of the 49th Wing Force Support Squadron put in every day.
"The package submitted covered everything our Noncommissioned officers, Airmen and contractors do on a daily basis, from on-the-job training to keeping the facility to standards for cleanliness," said Staff Sgt. Rontera Francois, Food Service supervisor at Shifting Sands.
Air Force dining facilities prepare meals for hundreds of Airmen every day, making good on their motto "Feeding the Fight." Shifting Sands ensures every Airman gets fed by preparing flight meals and several line options for the airmen eating in the facility. Their members must be prepared for deployment situations, controlling Meals Ready to Eat, knowing how to work all of the equipment and how to properly prepare all of the food.
Shifting Sands will compete Air Force wide against one base from each major command. A team of retired members and contractors who have worked in the services career field will inspect each dining facility to decide who will win best facility in the service.
"These Airmen are awesome, and work very hard every week. I am so proud of them," said Francois. "They won with their hard work and it's great that they were finally able to see their work culminate into this award."
Shifting Sands supports the Airmen of Holloman everyday with four meals. They provide holiday specials and even celebrate birthdays. Whenever commanders or chiefs need a face-to-face with Airmen to get a feel for the base, it is an ideal meeting place. The dining facility is an integral part of any military base, and Shifting Sands Dining Facility has proven that it stands out above many of the rest.
"This is amazing for these Airmen, they were so excited to get this award," said Francois. "They stay on their feet nine hours a day doing their best to take care of everyone that comes in. It has instilled a lot of pride for them and even though at the end of every day we are hustling to get everything done it shows that it is all worth it."
