IWAKUNI, Japan - Service members with Marine Wing Support Squadron 171 gathered at the motor transport lot aboard Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni, Japan, Jan. 9, 2015, for a change-of-command ceremony.

During the ceremony, Capt. George Ivascu, the Motor-T company commander relinquished command to Capt. Kevin Wheeler.
“I’m going to miss being in charge of these Marines,” said Ivascu. “They have been some of the best men and women that I’ve had the pleasure of working with.”

Ivascu ensured the Marines that he will continue to work with them, as he now prepares to become the squadron’s new assistant operations officer, as well as ensuring his Marines that they are in good hands with Wheeler in charge of the company.

“I’ve been with the company for a year and a half,” said Ivascu. “Like it was for me or any incoming company commander, you have some big shoes to fill; however, I am more than confident that Captain Wheeler is more than capable of filling these shoes.”

Ivascu added that he is positive Wheeler will maintain the company standards he has set while improving upon them.

“One of my main goals for the company is to get back to the basics, as Marines we are the nation’s force in readiness and I know that thanks to Ivascu these Marines are more than proficient at their (Military Occupational Specialty),” said Wheeler. “Now I want to make sure the Marines are proficient at the skills learned in basic training and (Marine Combat Training), I want to ensure the Marines are ready for everything and anything.”

During the ceremony Wheeler voiced his appreciation for the opportunity to lead the Marines of Motor-T as well as guaranteeing the Marines that he is up to the challenge of company commander.
