4th Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division
FORWARD OPERATING BASE KALSU, Iraq – Members of the 2nd Brigade, 8th Iraqi Army Division took part in commemorating the 87th anniversary of the establishment of the Iraqi army during a ceremony Jan. 6 at the brigade's base in Hillah.
Leadership from the 4th Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, members of the Iraqi army, Iraqi police and local sheiks were in attendance to watch the festivities.
"January 6th marks an important anniversary, not only for the Iraq army but for its people as a whole," said Col. Thomas James, commander of the 4th Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division. "Through your continued commitment to duty and selfless service, you have earned not only the respect of the coalition forces, but more importantly, the respect of the Iraqi people."
Iraqi Brig. Gen. Abdul Ameer, commander of the 2/8 IA, addressed those in attendance on the strength of the Iraqi soldiers and current operations.
Soldiers from the 2/8 IA participated in a military parade, including a showcase variety of military vehicles currently in use.
During the ceremony, the Iraqi soldiers demonstrated some of their capabilities to the crowd by conducting different forms of hand-to-hand combat and martial arts.
