CAMP CASEY, South Korea - Senior enlisted Soldiers of the 501st Sustainment Brigade "Champions" received some non-commissioned officer professional development from the 19th Expeditionary Sustainment Command's senior enlisted leader, Command Sgt. Maj. Jose Castillo.
Castillo spoke about the need to keep up with a changing Army and a need for senior enlisted to be competent in their jobs.
"When the surge came there were Soldiers promoted too quickly without having the skills and competence to do their jobs. It's not their fault, but we need to have the right person for the job," said Castillo. "We have seniors who are all about PT, they score 300 on their PT test, which is great!, but are they competent in their job."
During his visit, Castillo also visited Soldiers of the 501st SBDE who were in a two-week field exercise at Camp Mobile, an annex of Camp Casey. Castillo recognized more than 30 Soldiers from the 501st "Champions" Brigade for their hard work, with a 19th ESC coin of excellence.
Castillo emphasized to every Soldier, "You are only as good as your boss says you are."
