    AT SEA – Ticonderoga class guided-missile cruiser USS Shiloh (CG 67) was named the 2014 Unit Tactics Award recipient for Commander, Carrier Strike Group 5, March 9.

    In a message announcing the award, the awardees were recognized for their exceptional preparedness and warfighting skill, which is key to improving warfighting readiness.

    The award is based on accomplishments over the course of the year, both in real-world operations and readiness as demonstrated through training and certifications.

    “Shiloh has had a successful and busy year, accomplishing numerous warfare certifications while maintaining a full operational schedule,” said Capt. Kurush Morris, Shiloh’s commanding officer. “I could not be more proud of the crew. They have proven time and again, that they are among the best warfighters on the waterfront.”

    Shiloh’s nomination letter specifically identified their accomplishments in integrated air-and-missile defense and ballistic missile exercises, as the Seventh Fleet ballistic missile defense commander, and its superior performance during Fleet Synthetic Training.

    They were also nominated for participation in exercise Valiant Shield, the largest U.S. only Naval exercise, MULTISAIL 14, and multiple bi-lateral exercises with regional partners and operations throughout the region.

    Shiloh, forward-deployed to Yokosuka, Japan, is on patrol in the 7th Fleet area of operation supporting security and stability in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region.
