BEAUFORT, S.C. - Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 115 gathered for a change of command ceremony aboard Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort, March 5. Lt. Col. Lance Patrick relinquished command of the Silver Eagles to Lt. Col. Shannon Brown during the ceremony.
“It has been my distinct honor and privilege to serve as the commanding officer of VMFA-115,” said Patrick. “The Silver eagles are in good hands with the Browns at the helm.”
Patrick originally came to the Air Station as part of Marine Aircraft Group 31 in February 2012. He took command of the Silver Eagles during a deployment to the Middle East in 2013, and is now returning to MAG-31.
VMFA-115 intercepts and destroys enemy aircraft under all-weather conditions and attacks and destroys surface targets.
The Silver Eagles have a proud history beginning in World War II with eight officers and 127 enlisted Marines.
The squadron history book tells us that the squadron is rooted firmly in Pacific warfare, with chapters on the Philippines, China, Korea, Japan, Vietnam, Thailand and the Middle East.
As the squadron’s chapter of service in the Middle East close, Brown opens a new chapter of challenge and opportunity.
