JOINT BASE MYER-HENDERSON HALL, Va. - Representatives from nearly 90 educational institutions and employers gathered in the Cpl. Terry L. Smith Gymnasium on the Henderson Hall portion of Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall April 2 for the Marine Corps Community Services Education and Career Fair.
The semi-annual event was open to active duty and retired service members, those separating from military service, military spouses and Department of Defense civilians.
Sam Bagwell, Henderson Hall’s personal and professional development branch head and 22-year veteran of the Corps, was excited that so many organizations and prospective employers had come out to show their support.
“I want to take this opportunity just to tell you how thrilled I am to see many schools and employers here on our installation,” he said during brief opening remarks. “I take pride in what you do. I take pride in the things that you do for our service members. I take pride, being a veteran myself, in seeing the many veterans that we have out here at our event today.”
The fair was host to colleges such as American Military University, Marymount University in Arlington, Va., Old Dominion University and nearly 25 other educational institutions.
Employers included private companies such as Amazon.com, Amtrak, Two Marines Moving, Verizon Communications and local police departments from counties in the National Capital Region.
Recruiters were available to take resumes and conduct interviews with potential applicants.
Marine Pvt. Tyler Collins, Distribution Management Office, Headquarters and Service Battalion, Headquarters Marine Corps, Henderson Hall, said he’s leaving the Corps soon and was interested in pursuing a job in mechanics. He spoke with representatives from Amtrak at the fair.
Marine Sgt. Chuck Bell, Headquarters and Service Battalion, Headquarters Marine Corps, Henderson Hall supply, who accompanied Collins, had recommended that Collins check out the career fair.
“I figured this would be a great opportunity for him to come and get some information on what to do next once he gets out,” Bell said.
