SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - There's another member of the Adducchio family at Springfield Air National Guard Base. Airman 1st Class Amy Adducchio, a 178th Fighter Wing public affairs specialist, joined her five brothers and one uncle there in December 2007.

The six other family members at the base include Chief Master Sgt. David Adducchio, Staff Sgt. Dan Adducchio and Senior Airmen Eric and Tom Adducchio at the 178th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron, Tech. Sgt. Ben Adducchio at the 269th Combat Communications Squadron and Tech. Sgt. Andrew Adducchio at the 178th Logistics Readiness Squadron.

A long-standing family tradition, college benefits, and a strong dedication to service are the key components that motivated each of them to enlist in the Air National Guard.

Since 1948, at least one member of the Adducchio family has been working at the Springfield base.

Master Sgt. Patsy Adducchio, grandfather to the six siblings currently on base, began this tradition. Later, two of his sons, David and Paul Adducchio, and two of his daughters, Terry Ankeney and Lisa Bennett, also joined.

Patsy's other two children also work for the military, but as civilians.

Christine Adducchio is a systems analyst at the National Air and Space Intelligence Center at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. Mark Adducchio, father of the six siblings at Springfield, is the chief engineer of the Simulator Systems Group, also at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base.

"We are all inspired to serve the Department of Defense because of our father, Mark Adducchio," Tom said.

College benefits are another motivating factor for this family.

"I can't believe how much money this unit is saving my brother Mark in college tuition," David said.

Eric agreed. "This is paying for my degree in engineering," he said.

As compelling as strong family tradition and college benefits are for enlisting into the ANG, this family places a strong emphasis on service.

"Being part of the Air National Guard has given us a chance to both contribute to family tradition and service," Amy said.
