MARINE CORPS AIR STATION CHERRY POINT, N.C. - Explosive Ordnance Disposal technicians conducted demolition training at Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, North Carolina, April 21.
During the training, Marines practiced basic demolition procedures and safety precautions to maintain proficiency as the air station’s go-to Marines for handling unexploded ordnance, according to Chief Warrant Officer Luke A. Moore, the EOD officer in charge with Headquarters and Headquarters Squadron.
“Conducting basic training drills ensures us that our Marines are constantly familiar with their ordnance,” said Moore. “The training is closely monitored for accuracy and proper use of safety procedures.”
The Marines practiced various procedures for removing hidden improvised explosive devices and unexploded ordnance. Constant training is necessary for this dangerous work.
“We conduct refresher training to keep our Marines at the highest proficiency level possible,” said Moore. “The skills that EOD technicians possess are perishable. It is for that reason that it is important to maintain active and up-to-date specialties and skills. This is how we maintain a safe environment and successfully carry out explosive ordnance tasks.”
According to Moore, EOD technicians train constantly to maintain a high level of readiness to support Cherry Point.
“Remaining proficient in all areas of their job allows Cherry Point’s EOD technicians to be ready for whatever mission they are called to support,” said Moore.
