MARINE CORPS AIR STATION CHERRY POINT, N.C.- Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus spoke with Marines and Sailors and toured the flight line during a visit to Cherry Point, May 6.

Mabus visited to interact with the Marines of 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing at Cherry Point and to pass word regarding the current state of the naval services.

“I came here to see Marines, talk to them and answer their questions,” said Mabus. “I also wanted to tell them a few things about what was going on in the Marine Corps and in Washington.”

As Secretary of the Navy, it is extremely important to visit Marines and Sailors at stations across the globe, explained Mabus.

“I think it’s important for me to get out here because I can’t see Marines and Sailors while I’m sitting behind my desk,” said Mabus. “People will tell you what’s on their mind. They’ll ask questions and they’ll tell you their issues.”

During the visit, Mabus took time to personally thank Cherry Point and 2nd MAW Marines and Sailors for how well they perform their jobs in garrison and in combat. Mabus added that touring the installations helps him better understand the readiness of the Corps’.

“It is hard to express just how thankful the American people are and should be for the protection the Marines and Sailors give every day,” said Mabus. “I also want to express deep thanks for how tough of a job we ask you to do and how good you are at doing it.”
