FORT BRAGG, N.C. - The U.S. Army Reserve has announced the selection of the new command chief warrant officer of the Army Reserve. Chief Warrant Officer 5 Russell P. Smith will replace Chief Warrant Officer 5 Phyllis J. Wilson on July 2, 2015. Wilson has served in the position since July 2012.
Smith will serve as the principal adviser for all warrant officer management issues to Lt. Gen. Jeffrey Talley, chief of the Army Reserve.
As the Command Chief Warrant Officer, Smith represents and advises the Chief and the Deputy Chief of the Army Reserve, and their staff on matters pertaining to manning, resourcing, organizing, developing, administering, mobilizing, and demobilizing warrant officers within the Army Reserve and coordinates policy and statutory changes to support the advancement of initiatives for the Warrant Officer Corps.
Originally from Newport News, Virginia, Smith enlisted in the Army in 1977 as an Intelligence Analyst and joined the Army Reserve in 1993 where he attended the Warrant Officer Candidate School. Currently residing in Enterprise, Ala., Smith now serves as deputy commandant, U.S. Army Reserve, for the Warrant Officer Career College.
