CAMP SHELBY, Miss. – Brig. Gen. Janson D. Boyles relinquished command of the 184th Sustainment Command (Expeditionary) to Brig. Gen. Gregory L. Kennedy during a traditional Army ceremony May 16 at the Dalton Hall Auditorium, Camp Shelby.
Maj. Gen. Augustus “Leon” Collins, adjutant general of the Mississippi National Guard, presided over the ceremony. Collins praised Boyles’ leadership and dedication, and wished Kennedy the best of luck as the new command team.
Boyles, who served as the commanding general of the 184th ESC since July 2012, said he was proud of the Soldiers he has served with in the 184th ESC.
“I am very proud of where we are, and Greg (Kennedy), you’ve got a ready force here” said Boyles.
Upon his departure, Boyles will move on to serve as the chief of staff of the NATO forces in Kosovo.
Kennedy, the incoming Commander of the 184th ESC, said he was honored and humbled to take command of the 184th ESC.
“This job is not about me, it’s about each and every one of you.” said Kennedy. “That’s where I put my focus.”
Kennedy committed his efforts to ensure the climate, resources and capabilities of the unit allow each Soldier to perform at the best of their abilities.
“You guys have already done outstanding and achieved really great metrics” said Kennedy. “We are not going to stop there. We are going to raise the bar. We are going to do even better things than what we have done before.”
Kennedy’s previous assignment was commander of the 66th Troop Command, which serves as the Mississippi Army National Guard’s command element during large scale or sustained relief efforts following natural disasters within the state.
