FORT CHAFFEE, Ark. – Soldiers with the 224th Maintenance Company participated in an obstacle course exercise during an annual training event here.
The obstacle course consists of multiple obstacles that the soldiers must conquer; including scaling walls, going over or under barricades, low crawling under a low-wire, and tire stutter steps. To add to the atmosphere of the course, with the recent rains in the area, the entire course was wet and muddy, but that only seemed to add to the motivation of the soldiers in the early morning fog.
“The best part was getting out here, getting dirty, and having fun,” laughed Sgt. Steven Goode, a wheeled vehicle mechanic with the 224th Maintenance Company. “It was great.”
The obstacle course challenges a soldier’s physical and mental readiness, but the training is completed for other reasons as well. The obstacle course allows soldiers to work as a team, assisting each other through the obstacles that cannot be completed alone and creating plans of action as a group.
“It’s important because it incorporates team building,” reflected 1st Sgt. Warren Hill, first sergeant of the 224th Maintenance Company. “They love this stuff. You tell them what you want done, and then let them do it and it’s amazing the ways they figure out to get it done.”
