ARLINGTON, Va. - Eight U.S. Army 3rd Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard) Soldiers spent part of May 13 at a special Pentagon re-enlistment with the Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Gen. Martin E. Dempsey serving as the re-enlisting officer.
Five TOG 1st Battalion Soldiers, including Sgt. 1st Class Bryan A. Kincaid, Sgts. Richard C. Allen and Cody E. Carpenter and Spcs. Dustin T. Davis and Ryan M. Lorentz plus B Company’s Staff Sgts. Paul F. Mandrell and David R. Johnston and Sgt. Shay C. Lomas, again solemnly swore to defend the Constitution and protect the United States from all enemies, foreign and domestic.
The ceremony took place inside the Pentagon’s Flag Room.
The Old Guard’s Mandrell, of Huntsville, Alabama, who re-enlisted for an additional three years, explained that this group of re-enlistees wanted a wrinkle in the mass re-up.
“What a unique experience that was,” Mandrell told the Pentagram. “I do retention for my company, and we wanted a different type of re-enlistment. We have done them before at the National Archives in front of the Constitution, and we wanted another unique experience. [Gen. Dempsey] was wonderful. He spoke to everybody re-enlisting and members of their families.”
