OVIDIU, Romania - Thousands of Romanians attended the Ovidiu City Days event, May 29-31, to commemorate the town’s anniversary and celebrate National Children's’ Day in Romania. U.S. Marines with Black Sea Rotational Force and service members from the Romanian Military volunteered at the event.
“This was a very memorable experience for us,” said U.S. Marine Warrant Officer Chris Pagano, chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear defense officer with Black Sea Rotational Force. “It was a great opportunity for the Marines with BSRF to really have a chance to connect with the local community in a town that is right next door to us. We are thankful for the invite.”
The Marines showed the community members military vehicles and demonstrated techniques from the Marine Corps Martial Arts Program.
“Seeing our Romanian neighbors of all ages genuinely interested in who we are and what we’re doing here really shows the impact engagements like this have within the local community,” explained Pagano.
Black Sea Rotational Force conducts security cooperation activities with NATO Allies and partners in the Black Sea, Balkan and Caucasus regions. Their year-round presence in the region allows for continued and deep-seated partnerships between the United States and Eastern European militaries, and communities that host them, while deterring threats, promoting a unified Europe, and building the capability to collectively address security challenges.
