CAMP SCHWAB, OKINAWA, Japan — U.S. Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Kirtney S. Lim received the Dentalman Thomas A. Christensen Award June 3 at Camp Schwab.

The award goes to outstanding hospital corpsmen for actions that are creative, innovative, and improve efficiency, economy and productivity of the command.

“To me, this award is a culminating result of all the hard work we’ve done as a unit,” said Lim, a dental assistant with 3rd Dental Battalion, 3rd Marine Logistics Group, III Marine Expeditionary Force. “I wouldn’t have earned this award were it not for all of the sailors around me guiding me along the way.”

Lim, from Cape Coral, Florida, earned the award for his significant contributions to his unit in support of operational readiness.

“It’s an honor to lead and direct Lim,” said U.S. Navy Lt. Adam R. Everhart, the director for the Camp Schwab Dental Clinic. “He’s been a very hard worker since he’s been out here and has accomplished many tremendous things. I’m fortunate to have him as my lead petty officer.”

The sailors that work with Lim describe him as motivated and knowledgeable in his Navy job.

“I would say that I know his character very well, being that I am the assistant lead petty officer,” said U.S. Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Marquita C. Black, a hospital corpsman with the unit. “He’s a really great sailor to work with. We have a good working relationship because he understands his job and our mission as a clinic, which has made working with him even easier.”

Lim attributes most of his success as a sailor to those he has worked with and learned from throughout his Navy career.

“When I found out I was receiving this award I went to everyone and thanked them for all they had done to get me to this point,” said Lim. “I hope that me winning this award will inspire some of the newer corpsmen in my unit to work harder and achieve anything they set their minds to.”
