FORT MCCOY, Wis. – Sgt. Lucinda Day, 650th Regional Support Group radio operator maintainer, and Pvt. Nicholas Almeida, 650th RSG signal support systems specialist, attended a two-day Command Post of the Future class during the Combat Support Training Exercise Fort McCoy, Wisconsin June 7-8.
The U.S. Army’s CPOF is a C2 software system that allows commanders to maintain topsight over the battlefield, collaborate with superiors, peers and subordinates over live data, and communicate their intent.
CPOF is managed by the Product Manager Tactical Mission Command at Aberdeen Proving Grounds, Maryland, and integrated with the Army's Maneuver Control System and other products.
“This system allows the command to visualize the battlefield and the communications needed for operations,” said Almeida. “It further improves the command’s grasp of real time maneuvers and visualizes the allies and subordinates.”
The CPOF system began as a means to improve mission command using networked information visualization systems, with the goal of doubling the speed and quality of command decisions.
“This class allows us to make maps of routes and helps us know where our troops are,” said Day. “This was a good experience for me because I’m new to the unit and this was a chance for me get to know my fellow techs.”
CPOF is one of several examples of collaborative software, but intended specifically for use in a mission command. All visual elements in CPOF are interactive via drag-and-drop gestures.
The 650th Regional Support Group is committed to keeping up with the latest innovations of modern warlfare and by sending its Soldiers to classes like the Command Post of the Future class it will be prepared for the future.
