FORT HOOD, Texas -- Fort Hood officials have released the name of a Soldier who was found unresponsive June 10 in his residence at Fort Hood, Texas. He was pronounced deceased by Dr. (Maj.) Jason Smith, attending physician at Carl R. Darnall Medical Center at 9:40 a.m.
Sgt. Eric Artine Gharakhanian, 28, whose home of record is listed as Glendale, California, entered active-duty service in March 2011 as a human resources specialist. He was assigned to 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, since September 2014.
Gharakhanian was deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom from September 2011 to March 2012.
Gharakhanian's awards and decorations include two Army Commendation Medals, two Army Achievement Medals, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal with campaign star, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Medal, NATO Medal, and Combat Action Badge.
Circumstances surrounding this incident are under investigation.
