FORT HUACHUCA, Ariz.– U.S. Army Reserve Soldiers from the 910th and 383rd Quartermaster Companies are working together to provide full service fuel operations in support of the Quartermaster Liquid Logistics Exercise (QLLEX) 2015 at Fort Huachuca, Arizona.

The 910th Quartermaster Company is based out of three sites in Oklahoma, Ada, Ardmore, and Fort Sill, while the 383rd Quartermaster Company comes from St. Charles, Missouri. Though their missions differ, these two units have come together to help each other with training and execution of fuel services during the battalion’s annual training.

“We are a part of the QLLEX 15 mission,” said Sgt. 1st Class Robert Adams, the first sergeant for the 910th Quartermaster Company out of Ardmore, Oklahoma. “We are here to support the 418th Battalion, with the fuel support of the [Defense Logistics Agency] customers. We are working in conjunction with the 383rd Quartermaster Company, as they are another petroleum company just like us. They are running the bag farm and we’re running the retail site.”

Spc. Cheri Norwood, a petroleum supply specialist with 910th Quartermaster Company out of Fort Sill, Oklahoma, said her part of the mission is to work a diesel retail fuel point, mainly for convoys, fuel cans, and generators.

“When it comes to being mission ready, our convoys always have equipment, fuel, and everything else we need to get out on the road and get to another FOB, so it’s always important for us to have our fuel ready for them to go,” Norwood said. “If you circulate your fuel like you’re supposed to, you get all the water and sediment out of your fuel. Our mission, I would say, is top notch.”

Sgt. Vanessa Lauterwasser, a petroleum supply specialist with the 383rd Quartermaster Company, said their mission is to receive fuel, re-circulate it, and issue it back out to the tankers for delivery. She expressed the importance of their refueling mission and training.

“Our job out here is important because it is prepping us for real life scenarios,” she said. “So whether it is deployed, home station, or mobilization…we can get set up fast and provide fuel and quartermaster support to civilization whether it’s military or civilian.”

Staff Sgt. Samuel Minchue, the noncommissioned officer in charge of the fuel system supply point for the 383rd Quartermaster Company, stressed the pertinence of their mission by saying, “You don’t get any more real world training than in an environment like this. This is what it takes to prepare them to be deployed.”

“Nothing moves without us,” he added.
